The method involves determining a position value at a time-point using a satellite-based positioning system, where one of motor vehicles (12,14) is shut off. Another position value is determined at another time-point, which lies before the former time-point, by using the satellite-based position determining system. Third position value is essentially determined at the same time-point as the former time-point. A correction value to the third position value is determined based on the latter position value, where the correction value is transferred to one of the motor vehicles. An independent claim is included for a system for motor vehicles connected via the vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
