<p>[Problem] To provide: a sliding member which has a surface with high hardness and a dense hardness distribution, while being suppressed in the cost; and a method for producing a sliding member. [Solution] Each of sliding members (10, 20) has a base (11) that is formed of a steel and a film (12) that is formed on the surface of the base. The carbon content of the base decreases from the surface thereof toward the inside. The film is formed of a carbide which contains at least one element that is selected from the group consisting of group 4A, group 5A and group 6A transition metal elements of the periodic table.</p> |
