The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating diabetes or obesity containing dehydrozingerone as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, dehydrozingerone increases phosphorylation or activation of AMP kinase (AMPK) to induce a drop in blood sugar levels, increases insulin sensitivity to improve insulin control, and has excellent effects in reducing weight, body fat, total cholesterol, and leptin level, and thus is useful as an active ingredient of a composition for preventing or treating type II diabetes mellitus and obesity. |
