PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a linear high molecular weight PAS that employs hydrous sulfidation agent as a starting material, that is simple and has a high productivity in an industrial scale.SOLUTION: A method for producing polyarylene sulfide resin essentially includes: a step to mix a hydrous sulfidation agent and an aliphatic cyclic compound that can be ring-opened by hydrolysis, in a ratio such that the amount of the aliphatic cyclic compound per total of 1 mole of sulfur atom existing in the reaction system is in a range of 0.02 mole or more and less than 0.9 mole, in the presence of non-hydrolyzable organic solvent, and heat it to produce a slurry containing solid alkali metal sulfide while bringing the hydrous sulfidation agent to dehydration reaction; followed by a step to further add to the slurry an alkaline earth metal oxide; and then a step to carry out the reaction of a poly-halo-aromatic compound (a) obtained, sulfidation agent, and the alkali metal salt of hydrolysate of the aliphatic cyclic compound, to polymerize. |
