The device (1) i.e. cooling plate, has a contact surface (5) thermal contacted with a battery module (2) to allow transmission of thermal energy between the device and the battery module. A coolant flows in the region of the contact surface. The device is designed flexibly in a region of the contact surface. A fluid chamber (13) is formed and filled with the coolant such that the device expands in the region of contact surface with respect to inner pressure rising in the fluid chamber. An aperture is formed for filling the fluid chamber with the coolant. An independent claim is also included for a battery system with a battery module.
