The present invention minimizes noise caused by the reflection of light that is emitted from a light-emitting element. An optical module is provided with a light-emitting element (10) having a light-emitting section that is positioned on an optical axis (X); a holder (20) comprising a material that allows light emitted from the light-emitting element (10) to pass therethrough; and a ferrule (30) that holds an optical fiber (31) so that a tip section thereof is exposed at a tip surface of the ferrule (30) and that is attached to the holder (20) so that the optical fiber (31) follows the optical axis (X). A space (25) that faces a part of the tip surface of the ferrule (30) that includes the exposed end section of the optical fiber (31) is formed on the holder (20). The interface between the space (25) and the material that constitutes the holder (20) and intersects the optical axis (X) is not a flat surface that is orthogonal to the optical axis (X).
