PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blood vessel detecting apparatus which detects blood vessels regardless of their subcutaneous depth, easily discriminates the blood vessels which vary in subcutaneous depth, and displays them.SOLUTION: A blood vessel detecting apparatus includes: a reflection type blood vessel detecting light source 1 which irradiates light for the reflection type detection of blood vessels; a transmission type blood vessel detecting light source 2 which irradiates light for the transmission type detection of blood vessels; an imaging unit 3 which detects the back-scattered light having passed through an object to be detected of the back-scattered light of the light irradiated by the reflection type blood vessel detecting light source 1 and the forward-scattered light having passed through the object to be detected of the forward-scattered light of the light irradiated by the transmission type blood vessel detecting light source 2, and which outputs a reflection type captured image signal 5a based on the detected back-scattered light and a transmission type captured image signal 5b based on the detected forward-scattered light; a control unit 4 which controls the switching of the reflection type blood vessel detecting light source 1 and the transmission type blood vessel detecting light source 2, and which outputs switching operation information; a signal processing unit 5 which discriminates blood vessels according to their subcutaneous depth by using the reflection type captured image signal 5a, the transmission type captured image signal 5b, and the switching operation information; and a display unit 6 which displays the blood vessels by discriminating among them according to their subcutaneous depth.
