The method involves providing first visualization data for signaling a first route (R1) on a display unit (AE). The first route is used as a navigation route to destination. Second visualization data is displayed on the display unit. The data indicating a second route (R2) partially different from the first route is included in the second visualization data. A selection region (AB) is allocated as a specific region on the display unit around the signaled second route. The second route is used as the navigation route to the destination based on selection of the selection region. The display unit is designed as touch-sensitive screen, which is coupled with a control device (SV). An independent claim is also included for a device for operating a navigation device.
