PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element having a periodic structure of a recessed part and a projecting part that have the pitch of a sub-wavelength, the optical element being excellent in handling.SOLUTION: An optical element 1 comprises: a periodic structure of a recessed part 5 and a projecting part 7 that have the pitch of a sub-wavelength; and a connection part 9 that connects the leading end portions 7a of adjacent projecting parts 7. The projecting parts 7 and the connection parts 9 are formed from silicon dioxide. Each connection part 9 is arranged with a space left from the bottom of the recessed part 5. The top of each recessed part 5 is closed by the corresponding connection part 9. |
