<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical barbed suture and a method of forming the surgical barbed suture from a degradable material.SOLUTION: A method comprises: providing a suture which includes a degradable material having an elongated body with a proximal end and a distal end; and forming barbs on the elongated body of the suture, the barbs projecting from the elongated body toward at least one end of the suture thereby forming an included angle of less than about 90 degrees between the barbs and the elongated body, where the formation of barbs on the suture changes a degradation time of the suture by about 5% to about 75%.</p> |
