The optical sensor (1) has a photodiode (2) with parallel-connected condenser (3) and a connecting line (9), over which a generated charge at the photodiode is readable as voltage at the condenser. The photodiode is selectively connected with the connecting line or another connecting line (11) over a switching device (6). An evaluation unit (5) is formed to receive a conductive- or reverse characteristic of the photodiode operated as diode. An independent claim is included for a method for checking an optical sensor.
