Disclosed are methods, compositions and kits related to immunoassays for detection of FGF21 using antibodies specific to the N-terminal and/or C-terminal of FGF21. The present invention provides antibodies specific to N-terminal or C-terminal peptide of FGF21. Also provided are immunoassays for specifically measuring intact FGF21 or FGF21 with an untruncated N- or C-terminal region.

An isolated antibody, or an antigen-binding fragment thereof, specific for an N-terminal peptide sequence of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) wherein said N-terminal peptide sequence consists of HPIPDSSPLLQFGGQVRQ (SEQ ID NO:1) or HPIPDSS (SEQ ID NO:19), and wherein at least three amino acids in said N-terminal peptide sequence are part of a reactive portion with said antibody or antigen-binding fragment.
