A control device (100) for a vehicle motor controls a motor (MG1, MG2) capable of achieving a plurality of characteristics where the upper limits for the output of torque are mutually different. The control device for a vehicle motor comprises: a characteristic switch-over means (140) for switching the characteristics of the motor between at least two characteristics which are a first characteristic where the upper limit output is a first prescribed torque (Tr1), and a second characteristic where the upper limit output is a second prescribed torque (Tr2) that is smaller than the first prescribed torque; a characteristic determination means (120) for determining whether the characteristic of a motor is the first characteristic or the second characteristic; and a characteristic control means (130) for causing the characteristic determination means to determine whether or not the characteristic of the motor is the first characteristic when a driven object driven by the motor stops, and, when the characteristic of the motor is determined to not be the first characteristic, controlling the characteristic switch-over means so as to switch the characteristic of the motor to the first characteristic and cause the driven object to be started under the first characteristic the next time the driven object is to be started. |
