An embodiment of the present invention provides an X-ray image apparatus capable of measuring a region of a pressed breast by a touch sensor, reducing a work flow required for X-ray shooting by controlling a collimator to allow an irradiation region of an X-ray correspond to the measured region of the breast, and reducing pain of a tested body due to pressing of the breast, and a method for controlling the same. The X-ray image apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes an X-ray source to generate and irradiate an X-ray to a target body; a collimator to control an irradiation region of the X-ray generated from the X-ray source; an X-ray detector to acquire X-ray data by detecting the X-ray transmitting the target body; a touch sensor provided on the X-ray detector; a pressing paddle to press the target body located on the touch sensor; and a collimator controller to calculate a location and a size of the pressed target body based on an output value of the touch sensor to control the collimator based on the calculation result.
