A coin-handling apparatus comprises a region (16) for receiving coins of a plurality of denominations in random orientation, means (56) for singulating the coins and transporting them along a path towards a first sensing location, with a sensor (58) for receiving a signal for driving said sensor and providing a sensor output. The sensor output is indicative of a first low-frequency coin characteristic and a second high-frequency coin characteristic and is supplied to circuitry which provides a signal indicative of whether a sensed object is an acceptable coin. |
