A device is arranged to selectively open and close a window and activate a fan. The device comprises a housing 11 containing an actuator, a fan and a signal receiver. The device is operable in response to signals from a gas sensor and a remote control to drive the actuator to open or close the window and to activate or deactivate the fan. The window is opened and the fan activated on detection of a gas, for example a poisonous or explosive gas. The window and fan can also each be controlled using the remote control. The actuator may comprise a linear actuator using a compression spring which operates an L-shaped lever 10, or a push-pull chain (figure 9). An alarm may also be provided when the gas is detected. |
