715,665. Anodes for preventing corrosion. CATHODIC CORROSION CONTROL, Ltd., POWELL, H. M., and SPENCER, K. A. July 24, 1953 [July 24, 1952; Oct. 14, 1952], Nos. 18815/52 and 25757/52. Class 123(1) An anode for the cathodic protection of metal objects comprises a block 1 of electrically-conducting material having a cavity 3 in which is inserted a metallic connector in the form of a split tube 2. The block 1 is preferably tubular with a central bore 3 and made of carbon or graphite. The tube 2 is preferably copper or brass. Connecting lugs 6 may be secured to the ends of the tube 2, or, alternatively, the tube 2 is flattened and apertured to provide a convenient connection to an electric cable or another anode. In a modification the tube 2 is disposed in a blind hole in the block 1. In another embodiment, means for ensuring good electrical connection between a split tube 13 and a block 10 comprise a series of rubber discs 15 which, when axially compressed by means of a bolt member 17 and nut 20, expand radially so as to cause the tube 13 to grip more firmly the interior of the anode block. |
