A spinning spindle bearing comprises in combination a ball or roller bearing 3 rigidly supported in the spindle bolster 1, a flexible centring sleeve 4 which supports a footstep bearing 8, and damping means 11 between the sleeve 4 and the bolster 1. The bearing 3 is mounted in an insert 2 in the top of the bolster 1, and a flange 5 on the sleeve 4 bears against a shoulder 6 in the insert. In a modification, the sleeve flange is located between two elastic rings 23 and 24 located in the bolster 12. In a further modification, the bearing 3 is mounted directly in the bolster 15, and the centring sleeve 27 is supported by an elastic bush 25. The damping means 11 is located above the bush 25.
