A box making machine comprises two connected units, one consisting of devices for conveying and folding cardboard, &c., blanks, and the other including a stapling, &c., device, the units being adjustable relative to each other in the conveying direction for various lengths of blanks, and each carrying an aligning member for locating a blank in the stapling position. Blanks 13 are fed individually from the base of a stack by conveyer bars 12, aligning plates 15 being raised periodically by a cam 19 and follower 20, to permit a blank to pass beneath them. Folding plates 38, reciprocating in the conveying direction and rotating with splined shafts 35, fold both sides of the blank about swords 2 and feed it forward to the stapling position. A reciprocating pusher (not shown) forwards the blank to the stapling position, under pressure rollers 47 which are raised to permit its passage. The blank leading edge abuts an adjustable stop 56, and a pivoted plate 61<SP> </SP>swings up to engage the trailing edge. The elements 56 and 61 align the overlapping edges of the blank and determine the position of the first staple. The rollers 47 are lowered, the stop 56 pivoted clear and conveyer belts 46 begin intermittent movement, passing the blank beneath the stapling head 65 and further pressure rollers 48. The machine is fully adjustable for various sizes of blank. |
