PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terahertz wave generating device capable of suppressing unevenness in the intensity distribution of terahertz waves when terahertz waves are generated by allowing pumping light pulses having an inclined pulse plane to enter a nonlinear optical crystal. SOLUTION: The terahertz wave generating unit 25A is constituted by assembling four crystals 111 to 114. A first crystal 111 that generates terahertz waves is disposed in a specified area in a cross section parallel to the principal ray of pumping light pulses P and perpendicular to a pulse plane S<SB POS="POST">4</SB>, the specified area where the pumping light pulses P pass, being in a parallelogram shape having two sides parallel to an outgoing direction of terahertz waves T from an exit face 25b; and second crystals 112 to 114 are disposed which do not generate terahertz waves in areas other than the above specified area.
