Class 27 A coin thickness testing mechanism for coin freed apparatus comprises a pair of toothed wheels 5 extending into a runway formed by a fixed part 1 and the ledge 4 of a movable part 2, the spacing of the wheels being such that the rim of a correct coin S will engage a pair of opposed teeth of the wheels and cause them to rotate and this rotation will be continued by the engagement of the teeth with the annulus of the coin; a coin with an over-thick rim will jam at the entering point and a coin with an over-thick annulus will jam between a pair of diametrically-opposite teeth. Unaccepted coins are released into a return shoot by tilting the part 2 about its pivot 3 either by a button depressed by the user or by a delayed-action device as described in Specifications 425,024 and 471,644. For adjustment of their spacing, the wheels 5 are-mounted between pointed pins 6 on forked arms 7 adjustable about pivots 9 by screw and nuts means 12, 13. The pitch P of the teeth is selected so that they clear the rim of the trailing part of the coin.</p> |
