Improved cooling of an electrical machine

The machine has a rotor (2) whose two axial ends are provided with rotor exhaust openings (14). The rotor exhaust openings are formed outside with respect to a rotor coolant guide plate (10), and gaseous coolant of the rotor is guided in an axial direction. A housing (3) comprises a housing coolant guide plate (16) at the axial ends of the rotor. Coolant from a gap (4) and from the rotor exhaust openings are conveyed into housing inlet ports (6) through the housing coolant guide plate. The coolant from housing outlet openings (7) is fluidically isolated out into rotor inlet ports (9).
