<p>PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for manufacturing float glass are provided to improve the yield of glass by eliminating dross on the surface of lift-out rollers and expanding the life expectancy of the lift-out rollers. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(100) for manufacturing float glass includes one or more lift-out rollers(122, 124, 126) and base rollers(132, 134, 136). The lift-out rollers supply glass ribbons(G) into an annealing furnace. The base rollers eliminate foreign materials attached on the surface of the lift-out rollers. The base rollers are in contact with the lift-out rollers and rotate. The surface roughness of the base rollers is between 0.9 and 1.1 um. The apparatus further includes blades(142, 144, 146) to rake the surfaces of the base rollers. Protective coatings are formed on the surfaces of the glass ribbons.</p> |
