1. A chip scale fiber-optic device, comprising:
a transducer configured to send and receive information signals; a submount configured to hold the transducer in a substantially fixed position; an optical fiber configured with a fiber lens thermally fused on a bare distal end of the optical fiber, the fiber lens configured to convey the information signals between the transducer and the optical fiber; a ferrule configured to attach to the optical fiber; and a sleeve configured to hold the ferrule in a substantially fixed position so that the fiber lens on the bare distal end is held in place adjacent to and separate from the transducer, wherein the transducer optical axis is aligned with an optical axis of the fiber lens at an optimum coupling position.
