发明名称 Systems and methods for tissue stimulation in medical treatment
摘要 Stimulation treatments for various medical disorders, such as neurological disorders, comprise novel systems, strategies, and methods for providing TMS, electrical, magnetic, optical and other stimulation. Some stimulation methods comprise varying the stimulation parameters to improve the therapeutic efficacy of stimulation, and decrease risk of habituation and side-effects such as interference with normal brain, sensory, motor, and cognitive processes. The creation, and subsequent variation, of stimulation parameters can use sensed data in order to match, adjust, or avoid matching characteristics of the stimulation therapy relative to certain endogenous brain activities. Novel methods are described for choosing, creating and subsequently stimulating with partial signals which summate to produce therapeutic vector fields having unique temporal patterns and low-or high-frequency spectral content.

主权项 1. A method of treating a brain disorder comprising; a. operating a patient programmer device which is external to the patient in order to program a programmable medical treatment device with parameter values for a treatment protocol and selecting in the treatment protocol a therapeutic stimulation signal comprising spectral energy primarily below a first selected frequency of 20 Hz; b. creating a set of two or more partial signals wherein each of the partial signals comprises spectral energy of primarily above a second selected frequency of 20 Hz , and wherein the vector addition of said partial signals results in a vector field signal which is approximately equivalent to the therapeutic stimulation signal; and, c. applying the two or more partial signals, according to the treatment protocol, at two or more implanted stimulation conduits to stimulate approximately a selected neural target region with the vector field signal d. wherein stimulation is provided for the treatment of epilepsy.
