The present invention relates to a device and a method for processing an image and, more particularly, to a device and a method for processing an image which can restore an image when there is no fog from a fog image. The method for processing an image comprises the steps of estimating a pixel depth from an image including fog using a difference between RGB channels; refining the pixel depth by filtering the image whose pixel depth is estimated; estimating a global atmospheric source from the image whose pixel depth is refined; calculating an airlight index from the gray scale-converted image; and restoring an image without fog using the image including fog, the refined pixel depth, the global atmospheric source, and the airlight index.
