576,813. Road traffic signs. HARRAWAY, L. G. July 25, 1944, No. 14174. [Class 3 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] Plugs for fixing into holes in hard surfaces such as roads &c., comprise a member having a polygonal head 3 of width across the flats equal to the diameter of the hole and terminating in a pyramidal point 4. The member has a reduced shank 2 leading by a bevelled shoulder 5 to the head and it is driven into the holes, the corners of the head preventing subsequent rotation. The member is secured in position by driving a sleeve 6 having a serrated end 7 over the shank so that the shoulder 5 expands, the end of the sleeve forcing the serrations 7 to enter the side of the hole. The sleeve is preferably slit between the serrations. In a modification, the pyramidal end is omitted and the end of the sleeve is merely internally chamfered and saw cut. The sleeve may be formed from a series of segmental pieces assembled round the shank. The shank is tapped at 8 to receive a fitting such as a road stud. In some cases, the shank may project above the road surface to act as an indicator.
|
