PURPOSE: An encoding device using a bandwidth extension technique of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to improving the encoding performance by increasing the amount of information between an upper band signal and a lower band signal in a signal to be encoded. CONSTITUTION: An encoding device using a bandwidth extension technique comprises a lower band encoder(311), a filter calculating unit(305), an upper band mutual information amount filter(303) and a lower band mutual information amount filter(309). The filter calculating unit calculates a filter coefficient for increasing the mutual information amount of an upper band signal of an input signal and an encoded lower band signal, and then increases the mutual information amount of the upper band signal by using the calculated filter coefficient. |
