摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material for a lithium ion battery which has good storage characteristics while having average layer surface space of (002) plane being larger than that of a graphite material.SOLUTION: The negative electrode material is a carbonaceous negative electrode material for a lithium ion battery, and its average layer surface space dof (002) plane determined by X-ray diffraction by using CuKα ray as a radiation source is 0.340 nm or more. In the negative electrode material, a ratio (&rgr;/&rgr;) of a density (&rgr;) measured by using helium gas as the replacing medium to a density (&rgr;) measured by using butanol as the replacing medium is more than 1.05 and less than 1.25.
