The method involves depositing a dynamic simulation model of a three-way catalyst in a control- and regulating device, where the values of the simulation model are calculated by using an explicit integration method. The calculation of the values of the simulation model is not critical in terms of their computational stability. The other parameters of the simulation model are calculated by using a semi-implicit integration method. The simulation model comprises a Jacobian-matrix with the partial derivatives of variables. An independent claim is included for a control- and regulating device for an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine.
