The method involves operating electrical machine (16) in motor mode and generator mode. The electrical energy store (14) is discharged in the motor mode and charged in the generator mode. The electric voltage (18) of the electrical energy store of the electric machine is supplied by the electrochemical energy converter in motor mode of the electrical machine, when the electric power falls below a predetermined comparison value.
