PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively save power of devices.SOLUTION: Methods and systems of the present invention input an energy consumption profile for each of a plurality of different sleep modes available for a device, and input a probability distribution of interjob times for the device 100, 102. The methods and systems then compute an optimal time-out period for each sleep mode based on the energy consumption profile of each sleep mode and the probability distribution of interjob times 104. Further, these methods and systems monitor the usage of the device to determine the current interjob time 106, and switch between sleep modes to relatively low power sleep modes as the current interjob time becomes larger 108, 110. |
