PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly extract characters.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: a dividing unit that divides an image into a plurality of channels to create density images of the channels; a selection unit that separates a density distribution in the density images into two groups and selects a density image having the largest separation degree between the two groups; an extraction unit that extracts the maximum value and the minimum value of the density of the selected density image; a separation unit that separates the selected density image into two groups using a graph cut having the extracted maximum value and minimum value set as seeds; and an image creating unit that performs coupled component analysis to pixels in the separated two groups, respectively, and creates an image from the pixels in any one of the groups. |
