Provided are a transmission mode configuration method and base station, the method comprising: a base station in a closed-loop transmission mode receives pre-coding matrix indicator (PMI) information transmitted by a user equipment (UE); acquiring the statistic of the PMI information according to the PMI information; and configuring a transmission mode according to the statistic of the PMI information. The present invention relates to the technical field of mobile communications, and is applied in the configuration of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) transmission mode, thus improving the system performance of downlink transmission, and reducing transmission mode configuration deviation.
