Disclosed herein are polymerizable dental materials and dental products based upon such materials. More particularly, disclosed are materials and products based upon BPA-free, polymerizable resins that are derived from 1,4:3,6-dianhydro-glucidol (isosorbide).

A polymerizable dental material derived from 1,4:3,6-dianhydro-glucidol, wherein the dental material has a formula of wherein M is an isosorbide moiety, X and X′ are same and different and selected from a group consisting of carbonate, ester, urethane and ether linkage, R and R′ are same or different and selected from a group consisting of alkyl, alicyclic, aromatic residues and substituted aromatic residues, and Y and Y′ are same or different and are a polymerizable group selected from a group consisting of vinyl, vinylether, acrylic, methacrylic and epoxide.
