The method involves reading (2) strings to be analyzed from data sources. The strings are divided (3) into individual components by detecting dividers e.g. points. Examination is made whether the strings and/or the components are general product terms by comparing (4) the strings and/or the components with positive lists. Examination is made (5) whether the strings and/or the components contain numbers, upper case letters and/or special characters e.g. hyphens. Obtained data is evaluated. Decision is made which of the strings are descriptions for products or services. Results are stored. The data sources are databases.
