Liquid, e.g. solvent from a .dry-cleaning or dyeing &c. operation and containing solid coagulant and impurities is introduced into a dome 3 at 4 and distributed by a baffle 5 over the inlets 10 of a number of fabric sleeves 7 somewhat slackly mounted between perforate plates 2a, 2b in a drum 1. The inlet pressure causes filtrate to be discharged at 12 while the remaining liquid together with sludge from the sleeve interiors collects in a conical base 6 until discharged by opening of valve 13a. The slack mounting of the sleeves, together with provision of deflectors 14 which deflect the entering liquid against the inner wall of the sleeves, cause the sleeves to pulsate and thus automatically clear themselves of sludge during operation. Each end of a sleeve is secured between a washer 9 and the plate 2a or 2b by engagement of a nut 11 with a nipple 10 screwed into the washer 9. A suction effect is produced by making the outlet nipples 10a smaller than the inlet nipples 10, the latter preferably ranging in diameter from four to six millimetres.</p> |
