DATA ARCHIVE SYSTEM AND DATA DUPLICATION PROCESSING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the loss of data stored in a recording medium having a short residual life.SOLUTION: A data archive system is equipped with a data library device and a server. The data library device is equipped with one or more recording media; one or more recording media storing portions in which the recording media are stored; one or more record reproducing portions obtaining the reading quality of the recorded data when reproducing; and a library control portion for controlling the record reproducing portion and sending/receiving the data or commands to/from the server. The server is equipped with an overall control portion for controlling the entire system; a life management portion for calculating residual lives of the recording media based on the reading quality obtained by the record reproducing portion and managing those; and a data duplication control portion for selecting a duplication destination recording medium in which the data recorded in the short residual life recording medium are duplicated, and carrying out control to duplicate the data, when the calculated residual life of the recording medium is shorter than a predetermined period. A medium having a longer residual life than the short residual life medium is selected as the duplication destination.
