[Also in Group XXIX] A compressed air braking system for vehicles comprising a compressor 10, reservoir 12, governor 28, master control valve 14 and front and rear brake actuators 16, 18 respectively has a quick-release valve 30 between the master valve 14 and the front brake actuators. The valve 30 has a rubber &c. closure member 46 normally held by a spring 48 away from an exhaust port 36 so as to vent the connections 38, 40 leading to the front brakes. A spring abutment 50 has a corrugated flange 68 in engagement with the closure member 46 whereby pressure applied by the master valve to the inlet 34 of the quick release valve deflects the material of the closure member 46 into the corrugations so that air under pressure may pass to the brakes, the exhaust port 36 having been closed by deflection of the central part of the closure member. Further increase of inlet pressure moves the remaining part of the closure member away from its seat 54, compressing the spring.</p> |
