PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface modification method for a vulcanized rubber or a thermoplastic elastomer, by which various functions such as sliding property and biocompatibility can be economically and advantageously imparted in accordance with purposes.SOLUTION: The surface modification method aims a vulcanized rubber or a thermoplastic elastomer as a modification object, and the method includes: a step 1 of forming a polymerization initiation point A on a surface of the modification object; a step 2 of growing a nonfunctional polymer chain by radical polymerization of nonfunctional monomers starting from the polymerization initiation point A; a step 3 of forming a polymerization initiation point B on the surface of the modification object where the nonfunctional polymer chain is formed; and a step 4 of growing a functional polymer chain by radical polymerization of functional monomers starting from the polymerization initiation point B. |
