Receive diversity may be enabled for at least one subsequent paging occasion in response to determining that the message length indicated in the message length field is incorrect.

1. A method for operating a wireless user equipment (UE) device, the method comprising:
monitoring a paging channel; detecting an indication of a first paging message on the paging channel, wherein the first paging message comprises a message length field indicating a message length of the first paging message; receiving and decoding the message length field of the first paging message on the paging channel; determining that the message length indicated in the message length field is incorrect; enabling receive diversity for at least one subsequent paging occasion in response to determining that the message length indicated in the message length field is incorrect.
