The present invention relates to a food composition or a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and alleviating diseases and symptoms related to female sex hormone regulation, wherein the composition includes (a) a Smilax Glabrae Rhizoma extract or (b) a mixture of a Smilax Glabrae Rhizoma extract and a kaffir lime extract as an active ingredient. The composition of the present invention decreases the concentration of blood sex hormone precursors and body sex hormone control active materials so as to be effective in preventing and treating disease and symptoms related to female sex hormone regulation, so that the composition can effectively alleviate and prevent menopause symptoms in women.
