The method involves applying the liquid medium to an edge surface (9) of the rotating electrode wheel (1) in gas discharge lamp. A micro-structure (11) with cruciform, honeycombed, trapezoidal, pyramid-shaped, circular, annular, strip-like linear elevation or indentations is formed in the edge surface of the rotating electrode wheel by external processing with laser radiation.
