The mobile crane has a ballast element provided in a lifting and lowering device (30) that is used for mounting the ballast element on an upper structure (2). An adapter is provided in the lifting and lowering device, where the adapter is used for arranging the ballast element on the lifting and lowering device. The ballast element is adhered to the rear side of the upper structure by basic ballast. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a mobile crane at an installation location.
