728,986. Fibre board containers. BOWATERS DEVELOPMENT & RESEARCH, Ltd. Feb. 8, 1954 [Feb. 20, 1953], No. 4869/53. Class 18. An end closure for a fibre board container is formed by inserting a flanged disc 5 into the open end, turning over the end to enclose the flange 6 and enclosing the turned over end 11 in a metal hoop 1, which deforms to bite into the outer wall of the container and form a beaded rim. The end 11 is turned over the flange 6 by an annularly grooved pressure head (not shown), and the hoop having flanges 2, 3 is placed within the dished end and curled out and' round the end by a plate 12. Elements 14, 15 and a ring 16 prevent unwanted distortion. The flange 3 curls into a bead. In another form (not shown) the flange 3 is made large enough to be trapped beneath the element 14 and so does not curl. |
