717,665. Knitting-machines. THIEDE, W. O. April 9, 1951 [April 11, 1950], No. 8798/50. Class 74 (2). A rack 42, reciprocating with the slurcocks 29, imparts rotation, first in one direction and then in the other, to a shaft 44, journalled in a fixed housing 45 and driving, through individual friction clutches, gear rings 51, one for each thread guide rod 15. Any gear ring 51 may be made to drive its thread guide 15 by cams .71, on a drum 64, racked round as required from the main cam shaft of the machine, the appropriate cam lowering a gear 48, coupled to that ring 51 through an idler gear 47, into engagement with a rack 21 on the rod. When either of two abutments on a thread guide rod 15 encounters a stop, the friction clutch concerned slips. Each clutch comprises two plates, one on each side of the gear ring 51 and bearing on a pivot 53, levers 54, urged by a spring 55 into frictional engagement with the ring 51. The slurcocks are driven by a helical groove on a cam drum. |
