The agitator of a reaction vessel in which the internal process fluid pressure is between 500 and 3,000 atmospheres comprises a hollow shaft 11 having blades 10 secured thereto and corrected at its ends by a flexible coupling 8 and a universal joint 12 respectively to shafts 6 and 13 which are sealed where they pass through the end walls of the vessel by liquid seals (see Group XXVI). The shafts 6 and 13 are connected by a flexible cable 9 which passes through the shaft 11 and bends is the corrected shafts are misaligned.
