<p>Metal objects which are exposed to temperatures of over 800 DEG C. and to the action of corrosive gases, are sprayed with Cr-Ni-Fe or Cr-Ni alloys and subsequently coated with a liquid medium containing Ca-Si or Al-Ca. The medium may be a paint with a bituminous base, the proportion of Ca-Si or Al-Ca to paint being 1 : 1, 2 : 1 or 60 : 40. After coating, the object may be heated to 150-200 DEG C. The coating may comprise Ni 18-30 per cent, Cr 18-25 per cent, Si up to 3 per cent, Fe balance; Ni 60-65 per cent, Cr 12-20 per cent, Si up to 3 per cent, Fe balance; or Ni 75-80 per cent, Cr 15-20 per cent, Si up to 2 per cent, Fe balance, if any. The alloys may also contain W and/or Mo up to 10 per cent of each; alkaline earth metals, rare earth metals, Th, Zr or U 0.02-0.5 per cent of each.
