Method and apparatus for the manufacture of an article, the article to comprise a number of elements (50, 52, 56, Fig.5), including a resilient element (52, Fig.5), to be bonded together during the manufacturing process. The apparatus comprises a guide track 12 which defines a path along which the elements travel during the manufacturing process and a compression frame 14 provided along at least part of the length of the track 12 for compressing the resilient element (52, Fig.5) as it travels along the path defined by the guide track 12. The process includes moving a combination of article precursor elements (50, 52, 56, Fig.5)together along the guide track rails 40, 42, 44 such that the compression frame 30, 32, 34 acts to press the elements (50, 52, 56, Fig.5) together during bonding. The method and apparatus minimise misalignment of the elements (50, 52, 56, Fig.5) and thereby improve quality of the finished article as well increasing production rates compared to conventional methods and apparatus. The article may be a folded document such as an insert in a magazine. The resilient element may be a folded piece of paper. The elements (50, 52, 56, Fig.5) may be moved through the apparatus during manufacture with the aid of flights 26. |
