<p>A laboratory module 10 for storing and providing access to a plurality of samples comprises at least one rack (40, fig 3) for holding the samples, a plurality of bays 30a 30b, 30c comprising a plurality of guiding rails 35 such that a rack is positioned upon a rail and a transport chamber 25 for transporting the plurality of samples between bays wherein the transport chamber is adapted to accommodate at least one sample rack, and to align with any of the guiding rails to deposit or remove a rack. The module may include a storage bay 30c, a loading bay 30b and a processing bay 30a which presents the sample to a processing system. Ideally, the module comprises a transport module which moves the transport chamber in vertical and/or horizontal directions to move a rack to different bays within the module.
